Bookbinding

"Die Merseburger Zaubersprueche II"
softcover artist's book
approx. 5" x 8" closed
2011

Last academic year, I took a couple courses in bookbinding. This piece is a visual interpretation of an ancient Germanic healing spell found among the Merseburg Incantations. The language is Old High German, and the text tells a story of Norse/Germanic deities Odin, Freya, and Sintgunth healing a horse's broken leg.
The German medieval-revivalist rock band In Extremo set this poem to music beautifully.

study

"Stigmata"
oil on canvas
16"x 12"
2011

A quick, monochromatic sketch to break up the monotony of sanding and priming several birch panels. The canvas had a hole through it, so I was thinking of ways I could play around with that. If I develop this image further, I'll post updates.

24-hour Game Jam!

Last night, I collaborated with my friend and colleague, Sharon Hoosein, on a computer game. We produced "Heaven and Hell" in about 18 hours. Sharon did the programming and design, and I created the graphics. It's a short platformer in which you play a soul trying to get to heaven. Check it out here.

New project, call for artists...

I'm participating in a cool project masterminded by a very talented classmate of mine, Tara Helfer. It's called 72DEMONS, and the goal is to pair up 72 artists with the 72 Goetic demons to create an illustrated grimoire. More information, including the list of remaining artist-less demons, can be found at http://72demons.blogspot.com/.

UPDATE: Just got word from Tara that the application process will be ending Sept. 11, so apply soon if you're interested in participating.
