Weekend Studio Update

This is the first piece I'm doing where I'm really putting Transparent White to work.  Really happy with the results so far!

One more shot of an underpainting...

Trying out a Venetian turpentine glazing medium recipe.  I love it, but it takes forEVER to dry - even with a drier added.

King's Ascent release!

"King's Ascent" - a Flash platformer game I've been creating art assets for - is now complete and available to play on Newgrounds: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/620100
We'll soon be releasing it on other Flash portals and gaming sites as well.  I'll post the links here.

Underpainting test, second layer

Added a layer of Titanium and Transparent White.  The Burnt Umber is nice and neutral, but I'm really liking the Alizarin and mixed purple at this stage.

Eyes

Weekend studio update: Painting some quick sketches of eyes to test out how different colors in an underpainting will react with subsequent layers.

Mixing

Going back to mixing my own oil mediums after a long stint of using straight Liquin.
I found this crazy helpful post on WetCanvas that lists a variety of recipes in order from lean to fat, so I'm trying out a few of those.  Really excited for the "Old World Glazing Medium" with Venice turpentine.  Supposedly, it give your glazes a "stained-glass look" with gorgeous diffuse highlights and is based on a recipe Vermeer used.

New Website

For the last month or so, I've been building a more professional-appearing and easier to navigate website for my work over at Wordpress.  I'll continue to post things to my blog here, but it will be more "blog-like", meaning sketchbook stuff and the occasional re-blog of something interesting (and art-related) I've found on the internet.
With that said, please come check out my new website at meagantrott.wordpress.com.  In addition to my drawing and painting, it also showcases my digital and game-related work that I haven't posted here.
